It’s summer, and you’re headed to the beach or pool on a regular basis. The downside of gorgeous weather – you have to make sure your body hair is gone and your skin silky smooth. While summer is the time you pay closest attention to hair removal, it’s not necessarily the only season for beachwear. There’s always that mid-winter vacation in a tropical paradise. How do you stay ready for slipping into a bikini at a moment’s notice? The answer is laser hair removal.
Unfortunately, you can’t enjoy more or less permanent hair free status with laser hair removal this summer. The procedure takes times – usually four to six months – but you can get started, especially if you plan to go on a winter vacation. For next summer, make sure to start your laser removal sessions by the beginning of the New Year.
Laser hair removal involves using a laser beam to remove unwanted hair. It’s suitable for any type of unwanted body hair, with the exception of eyebrows. The intense laser beam destroys individual hair follicles. Since the procedure is done on the hair’s growth cycle, you’ll need to return to the doctor approximately every four to six weeks for between five and six sessions to complete the process. The length of each session depends on the amount of hair removal. Underarm hair removal should not take more than 15 minutes, while removing large amounts of back or chest hair might take an hour. You should notice results within a few sessions. Laser hair removal is semi-permanent, and many people need an annual touch-up prior to beach weather.
Although new techniques now permit almost everyone to benefit from laser hair removal, some people are better candidates for the procedure than others. Light-skinned people with dark hair have the best results, since it is easy for the laser light to target the melanin in the hair and distinguish it from the skin. Light-skinned people with blond, gray or red hair may need a prolonged treatment period. Dark-skinned individuals with dark hair may also need additional hair removal sessions.
Along with lack of hair, laser hair removal leaves users with soft, smooth skin. While laser hair removal isn’t cheap, the results are worth it. Think of it as an investment in yourself – and never scramble to shave for the beach again.
