Getting rid of unwanted body hair is a never-ending hassle. Unfortunately, most women feel like they don’t have a choice in the matter. According to modern social conventions, people expect certain parts of a woman’s body – such as the legs and underarms – to be hairless. Additionally, a lot of women feel pressure from their significant others to remove hair from other places, such as the bikini area. And none of this is to discount the multitudes of women who, irrespective of societal norms, simply enjoy the feeling of being hairless.
Needless to say, all of that hair removal adds up. In fact, according to a recent survey, the average woman will spend roughly 8,000 British pounds on hair removal in her lifetime. That is equivalent to more than $12,000. Additionally, the study, which was conducted by Remington, a supplier of hair care products and appliances, found that nearly 90% of women will spend a total of four months out of their lives removing all of that hair. Between the cost and the time, it’s easy to see how hair removal makes up a significant portion of women’s lives.
Despite the fact that most women will spend $12,000 throughout their lifetimes, there are a number of simple ways to significantly bring down that total. For starters, it’s a good idea to remove body hair yourself whenever possible. As with anything, DIY is an effective cost-saving measure, and while paying a spa or salon to help you get rid of unwanted hair can certainly cut down on the hassle, it can also cause a significant increase in price. So stick with shaving, depilatories and cheap at-home waxing kits in order to drive down hair removal costs.
Although it might sound counterintuitive, some women find that laser hair removal is a way to cut down on hair removal costs over the course of a lifetime. Typically, laser hair removal comes with a price tag between $100 and $500 per treatment, and since you need between five and eight treatments before the hair loss becomes permanent, the up front cost can be steep. However, once the hair is gone, you never have to worry about it again, and amortizing that initial cost over the course of your life, it is possible that laser hair removal could save you some money in the long run.
Unfortunately, there is no surefire way to make hair removal cheap and hassle-free. But if you plan accordingly and make smart decisions, you might be able to devote less of your money to getting rid of unwanted body hair.
